Sainsbury's opening hours and closing times for Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday

Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 70 years on the throne this year, which will see a Platinum Jubilee honour Britain's longest-ever reigning monarch.

There are more than 1,700 official events planned for the four-day bank holiday from June 2-5, plus more abroad as far away as Texas, USA and New Delhi, India.

Revellers in Britain will be able to enjoy festivities in pubs for two extra hours during the long weekend, as opening hours are extended to 1am.

However, some supermarkets are set to shrink their times and others give staff an extra day off work.

Broadcast to millions across the globe, the pomp and pageantry of formal events will be accompanied by more relaxed street parties, Big Jubilee Lunches and the Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday, 4 June.

Following the supermarket's usual bank holiday hours, Sainsbury's is expected to open its stores between 7am and 9pm, a slight reduction from the standard 7am to 11pm.

Meanwhile, its giant supermarket rivals Asda, Aldi and Lidl are set to be open from 8am to 8pm in the evening. At Morrisons branches, they are set to be open as normal over the bank holiday, meaning shoppers can browse between 6am and 11pm at most outlets.

Tesco are yet to confirm its hours, but it is likely outlets will remain open between 8am and 6pm across 4,000 stores if they follow their usual bank holiday pattern.
