Sainsbury's New Year 2021 opening times - when stores will open across the UK

Sainsbury's stores have remained open throughout the festivities, however many stores have been operating reduced hours.

Stores will open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, so if you've run out of booze or need some essentials like milk and bread you can make a quick dash to your local branch.

The chain has said customers should always consult its online store locator tool before heading out.

We have also outlined opening times below and in our guide to opening times for all major supermarkets over the New Year period.

  • 31 December - most larger stores will open from 7am to 7pm.

  • 1 January - larger stores will open from 9am - 7pm.

  • 2 January - all stores open normal hours

  • 3 January - all stores open normal hours

Due to new Coronavirus restrictions, Sainsbury's previously announced it would extend opening hours, giving shoppers more time to shop ahead of the busy festive season.

Clodagh Moriarty, Retail and Digital Director at Sainsbury’s, said: “In a year like no other, we want to do everything we can to help our customers celebrate Christmas, making sure they have everything they need to make the festive season as special as possible.

"We also want to make sure customers and colleagues are kept safe, which is why we’re opening our stores for longer and encouraging people to shop early and asking them to shop alone, where possible, this Christmas. This will help customers get in and out of shops quickly and safely and make sure everyone has what they need in plenty of time for the big day.”

Under current lockdown rules in place across most of England, Wales and Scotland all non-essential retailers are closed.

Brits are being advised to only leave home if absolutely necessary, with shoppers being encouraged to use online delivery services rather than visit physical stores.
