Sainsbury's Nectar card trick means shoppers can get vouchers by spending £1

Sainsbury's shoppers can get discount vouchers by spending just £1.

One savvy customer shared how to acquire the deal with online followers.

At the till shoppers simply scan their Nectar card to buy just one item, the Mirror reports.

From there they should then receive a coupon.

In this customer's case, she purchased one item for £1 and got a £4.50 voucher back.

She then was able to use her voucher for the rest of her shop.

The nifty trick was shared on Facebook group, 'Money saving hints, tips and ideas'.

The shopper wrote: “I don't shop at Sainsbury's often, but when I do, I pay for one item first, which is just over a £1.

“I usually then get a money off voucher for my next shop, today it was £4.50.

"Hope this is helpful.”

If you’re thinking of trying this hack out, keep in mind there is no guarantee you’ll get a voucher each time you make a purchase.

The amount of money you can get in the form of a voucher is also random.

To see if you’re in luck, scan your Nectar card before paying for your item and keep an eye out for any coupons.

Other shoppers have been left impressed by the supermarket trick.

One person said: "I've never thought to do this!

"Will definitely keep in mind now, thank you."

Another said: "Very helpful thank you!"

A third added: "That's a great help, will remember that.

"I just end up with loads of voucher that are useless until you shop again."

A fourth said: "Had vouchers this week."

The Nectar loyalty scheme is free to sign up to online and allows you to collect points that can be exchanged for money off your shop - this is on top of any coupons that are randomly printed after you’ve paid for something.

One Nectar point is worth 0.5p, which means 100 points would convert into 50p to spend.

There are around 18 million customers signed up to Nectar, and the points you collect can be used in multiple stores and online retailers, such as Argos and eBay.
