Sainsbury's make huge change for staff with four-day week

Sainsbury's is set to make some huge changes for its workers.

The UK giant supermarket is planning to offer a four-day working week to thousands of staff. Employees at head offices as well as those working in warehouses and as store managers at its 1,400 UK stores, are taking part in the four day week experiment which is running for three months, reported North Wales Live.

It allows staff to choose how they work their hours - so they can work four longer days, or use the weekend to complete their work and have more time off in the week.

One London store manager told the Times: "No one wants to work full-time anymore. The new condensed working scheme, introduced almost two months ago, means I have more time to spend with my family."

Sainsbury's said: "At the same time, we are committed to supporting colleagues when they need it most. That's why we have recently invested £185m to give retail hourly-paid colleagues a pay rise to help them manage increasing bills. This is the second pay rise we have given retail colleagues this financial year, taking Sainsbury's total investment in colleague pay to £205m."

Sainsbury's is the UK's second biggest supermarket and employs 125,000 people at 1,400 stores across the country.
