Sainsbury's issues urgent update to customers over false credit card charges

Sainsbury's shoppers who have one of the supermarket's credit cards are being urged to look at their statements for erroneous charges.

A number of Sainsbury's Bank customers were incorrectly charged money that they did not owe.

On January 2, some customers with the bank accidentally had £12 taken out of their accounts.

This is because the bank incorrectly charged customers late payment fees, as reported by Gloucester Live.

Sainsbury's has since issued an apology for the error, and has stated that it is "investigating" the issue.

Those who have an account with the bank should check their statements through either online banking or through a credit card app.

A Sainsbury's Bank spokesperson said: "We are investigating a small number of customers who have been charged late payment fees incorrectly.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and are automatically refunding customers to put this right.”

However, according to MoneySavingExpert.com, a user said that Sainsbury's Bank told them it would only refund customers who contacted the bank first, so it is important to check your statements.

Alternatively, you can contact Sainsbury's Bank on 0808 540 5060.
