Sainsbury's issues important statement urging shoppers to return popular food

Sainsbury's has issued a notice about an urgent recall.

Posting a statement on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, the supermarket has said it is recalling frozen by Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels.

The product is being pulled because Salmonella has been found in some of them.

Shoppers who have bought it, should return it to store where they will get a full refund.

The Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels (frozen) products come in pack sizes of 300g and the batch code is 2653152, Birmingham Live reports.

The best before date on the affected items is 08 September of next year (2021).

In a risk statement, the supermarket giant warns: "The presence of salmonella in the product listed above.

"Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
