There's no disappointment quite like cutting open a long-awaited avocado, only for it to be rotten inside.
So in a bid to beat the avocado lottery, Sainsbury's has just started selling already smashed avocado.
Different from your usual dairy-filled guacamole, the revolutionary tubs made by British brand Holy Moly contain 100% pure smashed avocado, with each pot containing two hand-scooped and sun-ripened Hass avocados which are kept fresh, green and creamy in the tub thanks to a touch of lime juice.
Alternatively, if you opt for the own-brand version of supermarket guacamole, be prepared to get a lot more extra ingredients in your dip, other than avocado.
For example, Tesco's £1.50 tubs of their own-brand guacamole contain 71% avocado, as well as soured cream and ascorbic acid.
Hitting the pre-prepared fruit and veg aisle in Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, the Holy Moly tubs will set you back about the same hefty price as two avocados will, at £2.75 for a 150g tub.
Waitrose and Ocado already stock it, albeit for 4p more, at £2.75 a piece, with Waitrose also selling a spicy version of it for the same price.
The avocados involved are grown, hand-picked and hand-scooped on a four-generation family farm in rural Mexico, with no brown bits or overly-ripe yellow to be seen.

The Holy Moly brand was the first in the UK to create fresh avocado-based products using High Pressure Processing (HPP) -an all-natural process that's more commonly used in the likes of cold-pressed fruit juices, and doesn’t use chemicals or high temperatures which helps to preserve the taste, texture and nutrients of each avocado.
Holy Moly Co-Founder, Tom Walker, says: “We are incredibly excited to be launching our revolutionary 100% Pure Smashed Avocado into Sainsbury’s – its location in the pre-prepared fruit and veg aisle will ensure that it is easier than ever before for busy Brits to incorporate the finest quality, fresh avocado into their daily routines and enjoy all the benefits of this superfruit.”
