Sainsbury's has ditched Nectar points promotion

Sainsbury's has ditched its Double Up Nectar points loyalty scheme promotion for 2021 as it launches a new way to save money with the system.

The promotion allowed shoppers to save their points for a year then double them up for a short period to spend in specific departments, reports BirminghamLive.

But Nectar points have now changed to offer year-round personalised promotions on the items you actually buy.

Double Up allowed customers to use the points in store on items such as food, cosmetics, and electricals.

You were told you must have more than 1,000 Nectar points on your account to take advantage of the offer, while a maximum of 10,000 points could be cashed in per card/account.

Naomi Wallis, co-founder of the blog Skint Dads, said : "It’s disappointing to hear that Double Up has been cancelled, replacing it instead with the My Nectar Points offer.

"Many shoppers save their points through the year to use towards Christmas, and will now miss out."

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "Fewer customers have been using Double Up over the last few years and so it’s only benefitted a small minority of our customers.

"We know some people will be disappointed to see it go, but we hope more customers will be able to take advantage of our new My Nectar Prices offer.

"This gives customers access to lower prices and personalised offers year-round."
