Sainsbury's gives three day warning to anybody who shops or works there

Sainsbury's has issued an update that will affect anyone who enters any of its stores.

From January 27, shoppers in England will no longer be required by law to wear a face mask in any shop in the country.

Guidance, however, will remain for people to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces, where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet.

Under the new rules, supermarket giant Sainsbury's has issued a message to customers and staff, the Manchester Evening News reports.

It said: "Safety remains our highest priority. From Thursday, we’re asking our customers and colleagues in England to continue to wear a face covering in our stores if they are able to.

"In Scotland and Wales face coverings remain mandatory for those who can wear them in our stores, in line with the latest Government restrictions.

"We continue to have a range of safety measures in all of our stores, including screens and sanitising stations. "

The Government said England will fully return to Plan A on Thursday, January 27.

From Thursday, venues and events will no longer be required by law to check visitors’ NHS COVID Pass - although the pass can still be used on a voluntary basis.

And in schools, pupils and staff will no longer be advised to wear face masks in communal areas. While in primary schools, staff will no longer be advised to wear face coverings in communal areas.

It was also announced the legal requirement for people with coronavirus to self-isolate will also be allowed to lapse when those regulations expire on March 24.
