Sainsbury's explain why some smaller stores still remain closed including two in Liverpool

Back in March many businesses were forced to close when the country went into lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.

But supermarkets were generally an exception to the rule, with people allowed to visit to stock up on essential items.

However, even some of the big four decided to close some of their smaller stores for a short while, though many have now reopened since lockdown restrictions eased.

But if you’ve been into Liverpool city centre recently you will notice that two smaller Sainsbury’s stores remain closed and boarded up. It left us speculating over whether that means they’ve closed for good, so we contacted the supermarket to find out what’s happening.

Asked about why the stores remain closed and if there is a planned reopening date for them, a Sainsbury’s spokesperson told the ECHO: “Early in the crisis, we closed some of our convenience stores which saw significantly fewer customers as people were working from home and our colleagues moved to help neighbouring stores. We will keep everyone updated on our plans.”

When then asked if the Bold Street and Castle Street stores will ever open again, a spokesperson added that these stores are “temporarily” closed and customers will be kept updated about reopening plans.
