Sainsbury's has announced plans to reopen some petrol stations from next week as part of a phased approach that will eventually see all branches back in business.
In a letter sent out to customers in the past 24 hours, boss Mike Coupe unveiled a series of new measures, including later opening hours, as the UK passes its coronavirus peak.
This will include convenience stores, which will extend their opening times to 11pm, to help manage long social distancing queues in residential areas.
Larger stores will also open from from 8am until 10pm as part of measures to speed up transactions.
The grocer said it's now launched a new telephone service for vulnerable shoppers - allowing struggling households to place their orders directly over the phone.
"We now have five times more staff to deal with this," Coupe said.
However, online refund requests will no longer be processed on delivery. Instead, customers are being asked to call up for refunds on missing items and substitutions that were not quite right.

"To help our colleagues socially distance, we are no longer asking them to accept unwanted substitutions or to process refunds on your doorstep.
"If you do not want the substitutions, then you need to call us to let us know and we will process the refund for you," Coupe said.
As part of its ongoing measures, the supermarket said it will continue to offer a dedicated shopping hour for vulnerable and elderly customers.
This applies from 8am to 9am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
NHS and social care workers can shop in supermarkets from 7:30am to 8am Monday to Saturday before they open.

And, from Monday, stores will extend their opening times to help manage long queues outside amid social distancing measures.
"We are doing our best to reduce queuing times both inside and outside our stores. To help with this, we have been extending our opening hours."
By Monday the vast majority of Sainsbury's stores will be open from 8am until 10pm.
"We are installing perspex safety screens in our petrol filling station stores and these will start to re-open from next week."
The chain said it's also extending opening hours in many convenience stores to 10pm or 11pm. You can check the latest opening hours in your area before shopping here.
"To help with queuing inside stores, we are installing additional protective screens between manned checkouts.
"These screens will help keep our colleagues and customers safe and will mean we can open far more manned checkouts in the stores that have them.
"We are installing them in over 150 stores over the next week or two and I will keep you updated on this and other steps we are taking to help make your shopping trip quicker and easier."
The latest changes come just days after Asda introduced a 'no touch' policy, urging customers to only pick up items they intend to buy.
