Sainsbury's Christmas advert: Mog the cat revived in touching adventure

Mog the cat has been revived for this year’s Sainsbury’s Christmas advert.

Narrated by Emma Thompson, the three minute advert was released on Thursday night with social media users immediately expressing their delight over the beloved clumsy cat’s reappearance.

Author Judith Kerr, who also wrote The Tiger who Came to Tea and When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, makes a guest appearance on the advert.

Alongside the campaign, the author has written and illustrated the first new Mog book since 2002, when the calamitous cat died peacefully of old age in Goodbye, Mog.

Proceeds from the book, sold exclusively in Sainsbury’s, will go to Save the Children’s efforts to improve child literacy.

“I have enjoyed illustrating Mog again after so many years and am thrilled that this special Christmas story will help raise funds for Save the Children and the important work they do for children’s literacy,” Ms told the Guardian.

The advert was an instant hit on social media, with hundreds tweeting they far preferred Mog’s adventure to John Lewis’s £7m Man on the Moon advert.
