Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is now charging drivers 30p for a previously free product at its forecourts.
Drivers have been hit by the changes for air when they went to garages across the country, it has emerged.
The supermarket previously offered air for free at its stations.
But now drivers must fork out for it - and free water has also been replaced, with punters charged £1 for screenwash, BirminghamLive reports.
Drivers have criticised the move in interviews with national media publications.
Sainsbury's is one of the so called Big Six supermarket chains in the country.
Its rivals include the likes of Tesco, which is Britain's biggest grocer.
Morrisons and Asda complete the so called Big Four, with each offering petrol and diesel pumps.
Aldi and Lidl are two of the four's budget rivals.
One driver told The Sun newspaper: “Had to pay twice for air on your new money grabbing machine as three mins isn't enough for Landrover tyres.
“Given the profits you lot make it’s pathetic that you are charging for this. Won't buy fuel there again.”
A Sainsbury's spokesman said: “We regularly review the services we provide our customers.
"We have invested in the facilities at our petrol filling stations, offering a variety of services including screen wash air towers and contactless payment options, offering even more convenience for our customers."
