Sainsbury's boosting Nectar points for people who buy fruit and veg this month

Sainsbury's is giving shoppers extra Nectar points when they buy fruit and vegetables in stores this month.

The supermarket says customers can potentially earn over 750 points depending on how often they take part in the promotion.

Shoppers will be rewarded with bonus points in the Nectar app based on the number of portions of fruit and veg they purchase over the month.

You first have to sign up for “The Great Big Fruit and Veg Challenge” which should be advertised now on the home screen of the Nectar app.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll start seeing “personalised” goals which set out what you need to buy to get the extra Nectar credit.

Sainsbury’s says these will be based on your normal spending habits - so in theory, this should mean you’ll see fruit and veg you’d typically buy anyway in the promotion.

You’ll also be able to track your progress and see which milestone you need to unlock next on the app.

Shoppers can get the bonus points for both in-store and online spends as long as they use their Nectar card.

In this year’s challenge, customers can also collect up to eight product badges by purchasing a number of portions of specific fruit and vegetables, such as strawberries, tomatoes, and broccoli.

By earning a badge, you'll also receive additional bonus points.

“The Great Big Fruit and Veg Challenge” will run from June 1 to June 28.

In 2020, Over 450,000 customers signed up to the promo and 52.5 million portions of fruit and veg were purchased by participating shoppers.

Mark Given, chief marketing officer at Sainsbury’s, said: “As part of our new brand commitment to Help Everyone Eat Better, we are bringing back The Great Big Fruit and Veg Challenge and giving customers the opportunity to earn bonus Nectar points when they purchase fruit and veg throughout June.

“We hope that by participating in the challenge, customers are inspired to pack in more nutritious food, while getting more out of their points balance.

“As a supermarket serving communities across the country, we have a responsibility to encourage our customers to eat delicious food that is healthier for people and better for the planet, and the challenge is one of the many ways we are doing this.”
