Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose and Co-op urgently recall seafood products over Salmonella fears

Scots are being urged not to eat a number of chilled and frozen seafood products sold in Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose and Co-op over fears they may have been contaminated with salmonella.

Customers who have purchased any of the products below should not eat them and instead return them to the shop where they were bought for a full refund, reports Glasgow Live.

Salmonella is a dangerous bacteria that can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramp if ingested. The full list of products below must not be eaten.

The following items have been recalled:

  • Sainsbury’s Mussels (Chilled)

  • Sainsbury’s Cockles (Chilled)

  • Co-op Cooked Mussels (Chilled

  • Asda Seafood Selection (Mussels, seafood bites and king prawns) (Chilled)

  • Asda Cooked Mussels (Chilled)

  • Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (Chilled)

  • Sainsbury’s Cooked Cockles (Frozen)

  • Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels (Frozen)

  • Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (Frozen)

  • Waitrose & Partners Essential Frozen Seafood Selection, (King prawns, mussels and squid rings) (Frozen)

  • Co-op Cooked Seafood Selection (Frozen)

  • Waitrose & Partners Essential Cooked Seafood Selection, (Mussels, king prawns and squid) (Chilled)

A risk statement from the Food Standards Agency reads: "The products listed above might be contaminated with salmonella. Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps."

It continues: "The retailers listed are recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notices."
