Saido Berahino has revealed how a failed transfer to Tottenham has impacted his career.
The 26-year-old was attracting interest from Spurs back in 2015 but West Bromwich Albion turned down bids from side then run by Mauricio Pochettino.
Berahino reacted to the drama during the August transfer window by tweeting that he would never play for the Baggies again before he promptly went on strike.
The striker, who is now plying his trade for Belgian club Zulte Waregem, has reflected on that tumultuous time in his life.
"I regret every moment of it, because I didn't handle it well," Berahino told the BBC World Service.
Berahino bagged 20 goals in all competitions during the 2014/15 season as West Brom finished 13th in the Premier League.
The forward is now enjoying life in Belgium with First Division side Waregem who sit eighth, with Berahino having scored five goals in 14 league matches. But the Burundi national team captain admits the hurt from not joining Spurs has never gone away.
"[That is] one moment in my life I can say I couldn't get over it.
"I didn't know what to do, I got caught up in the hype. I didn't handle the situation properly, I let it get hold of me.
"The people around me at the time didn't know what to do either. Bad news travels fast.
"The media is there to do their job, they build you up and when you are ready to come back down, you will come back down like a roller coaster. I wasn't focusing on the media, I was more concerned on my career and what I was going through emotionally."
