Said Benrahma stepped into Jesse Lingard's boots on Sunday afternoon according to BBC pundit Danny Murphy.
Lingard's departure from West Ham has left a creative hole in the Hammers midfield and Benrahma stepped up with a goal and an assist during the 4-2 win.
Murphy and fellow Match of the Day pundit Ashley Williams were full of praise for Benrahma's contribution and David Moyes was also pleased with the 25-year-old's display.
"That's him [just] getting started, and with an assist as well," Moyes said. "I think you can see a slight change in his play and his development, it can't always be the Said Benrahma show it has to be for the team, that is what we're interested in.
"At moments we need his individual ability to beat people, score us goals and make assists and he did that today."
Former England international Murphy was far more effusive than the manager when highlighting Benrahma's contribution to the Hammers win:
"He played as a No.10 today and he is trying to fill the boots of Lingard who came to West Ham at the end of lasts season and set the world alight," Murphy said.
"He [Lingard] scored nine goals and I think most players and supporters of West Ham would have liked to have seen him back. He is not there so today they gave Benrahma the chance to play in that role, the No.10 role and from minute one he had intent about him.
"He had good feet, he got in great positions you can tell he is a goalscorer, I know he only got one last year, but he scored a load of goals at Brentford and there is no doubt in my mind he has the ability to get double figures if he plays regularly in this West Ham side.
Murphy added that "defensively he is going to have to improve if he wants to stay in this team with David Moyes," something the manager has alluded to in the past.
Murphy was impressed with Benrahma pointing out he improved throughout the match: "As the game wore on he got better and better, he kept finding himself in goalscoring positions," he said.
"One thing you have to do if you play as a No.10 is you have to chip in with goals you can't just look good on the ball.
"He is somebody I think can grow this season if the manager gives him belief and the platform, Any player needs trust from the manager."
Williams expanded on this final point from Murphy: "He showed today he can do it in the Premier League but he needs to feel, especially with attacking players they need to feel confidence from the manager," he said.
"They need to feel they are going to play even if they have a bit of an off game they are not going to get brought off all the time.
"If he keeps playing and his confidence gets better and better he certainly has the quality to make things happen for West Ham."
