Said Benrahma responds to Premier League transfer interest as Newcastle United are linked

Said Benrahma admits that his ambition is to play in the Premier League as he faced questions over his future with several top-flight teams credited with an interest in the winger.

The 24-year-old winger is currently a key member of Brentford's side which is vying to get to the English top-tier for the first time since 1947.

With nine goals and five assists to his name this season, there was a worry that Benrahma would depart in January but no bid was forthcoming.

However, several sides are said to be scouting the Algerian international - with Newcastle United thought to be one of those.

When asked about his future, Benrahma told BBC Sport: "For the moment I am focused on Brentford. This summer I will see but for the moment I am so focused here.

"I am happy, I play, I score, I win, it's a good position so I am happy.

"For the moment I am here. My ambition is to play in the premier league. That's my first ambition. It's the first step and then continue to progress.

"If I go into the Premier League God willing with Brentford or ... I don't know but my ambition is Premier League."

Benrahma arrived at Brentford in 2018 from Nice, costing just £1.5m.
