Sahith Theegala repeats famous Tiger Woods moment with iconic Masters chip

PGA Tour star Sahith Theegala channeled his inner Tiger Woods during Sunday's final round at The Masters, after holing a chip-in at the par three 16th.

Woods has enjoyed many a remarkable moment around Augusta National, but one of his most iconic came when he rolled in a dramatic chip-in birdie at 16 on the way to securing his fourth green jacket in 2005. The green-side shot one of the most recognised in golf history, with Woods' nike ball famously falling in after taking a pause.

18 years on, Theegala has seemingly recreated it after playing his shot from a similar position down the right-hand side, whilst also taking his attempt down a similar line.

Golf fans on Twitter were quick to compare the Masters rookie to the five-time champion on social media. One fan - @incarceratedbob - wrote on Twitter: "Sahith Theegala with the Tiger Woods 2005 flashback."

And this was echoed by @PetersenWill who added: "That Sahith Theegala chip on 16 giving us some serious Tiger Woods flashbacks," whilst @@ZoeHunter5 tweeted: "Unreal from Theegala. Gives you Tiger Woods flashbacks."

Theegala's chip-in at 16 was the highlight of an impressive final round, after shooting a five-under-par 67, to leave him at the same score for the tournament on debut. The American is competing in just his second full season on the PGA Tour, and is quickly becoming one of the circuit's most popular figures.

Making your debut at Augusta is a special moment for any golfer, and Theegala is no different. Speaking after making the cut on Saturday, he said“It’s been an incredible week so far. I got here Sunday late afternoon.

"I knew it was going to go really fast. So, I just tried to take in the moment. The fact that I have got a couple more rounds is just awesome. This place is so special. I have some of my best friends and all of my family here. It’s been fun.

I just don’t want the week to end. I’m just going to enjoy these last two rounds no matter what the weather’s like and how I play. But the game feels good, and I’m a competitor. Once I get out on the golf course, I’m fully focused and all that. Whether the weather is bad, or good, it’s always fun to be at this place and getting to play against the best players in the world.”
