SAG Awards' most iconic moments: From adorable reunions to swipes at fellow actors

With awards season well underway there is never a dull moment in Hollywood with the finest names in the business guaranteed to bring the drama in more ways than one.

The SAG Awards are right up there with one of the big-name movie business events that brings out the best - and sometimes worst - behaviour from its star-studded guest list.

As the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards get underway in Los Angeles tonight viewers will be hoping for an entertaining schedule as the big winners are honoured.

But sometimes the most captivating moments are unplanned and over the years the SAG ceremony has seen its fair share of additional content seeping through the cracks, here we take a look at some of the most memorable moments.

Betty White mocks Sandra Bullock

In 2010 Betty White took the stage when she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the age of 93.

Despite her senior age at the time Betty proved she wasn't to be messed with when she delivered her sassy acceptance speech.

She also wasted no time in roasting her The Proposal co-star Sandra Bullock who was hosting the segment.

The comedy actress was 93 at the time but proved she was still sharp as a tack and as quick-witted as ever as she delivered a slew of zingers in her speech.

Grabbing her by the hand she said: "And the fact that this lovely lady, she is such a wonderful one and with all the wonderful things that have happened to her... Isn’t it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go?"

She also got the audience laughing at her witty speech that included this gem of a line: "All those years that I had no idea I'd still be working through (are) so much thanks to you and your mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers. And a couple of great grandfathers when I was younger!"

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunite

Pulses were racing in 2020 when the ceremony saw former lovers Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston reunite at the ceremony thanks to them both being nominated.

The pair divorced in 2005 but fans have always held a flame for their former iconic romance that even saw him guest star in Friends.

As Brad accepted the award for Best Supporting Actor for Once Up a Time… in Hollywood and joked about his failing love life and resorting to using Tinder, Jennifer was seen laughing in the audience.

She then won Best Actress in a Drama Series for The Morning Show, and Brad was seen grinning and cheering her on as she took to the stage to accept her award.

Winona Ryder's meme moment

As Stranger Things bagged the award for Best Ensemble Drama in 2017 the whole cast piled on stage as David Harbour delivered an acceptance speech centred around unity.

However, Winona became the big talking point from the show with her animated facial expressions playing out and quickly becoming an array of gifs and memes online.

The comical moment seemed to be down to Winona struggling to hear what was being said thanks to the overwhelming support from the crowd.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet together again

Leonardo DiCaprio was regularly overlooked when it came to winning awards, and he racked up five individual SAG Award nominations before winning his first award in 2016.

As he stepped up to accept the gong for his part in The Revenant he was congratulated by Titanic co-star Kate.

Kate later admitted she had been so keen for her 1997 co-star to finally get the recognition he deserved she had forgotten to think about her own nominations.

In 2014 Cate Blanchett was not happy when the bosses behind the ceremony cut her short as she gave her acceptance speech

During the 2014 SAG Awards, Cate Blanchett was left fuming when show bosses attempted to cut her acceptance speech short.

The film star took to the stage after winning Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Blue Jasmine - but she wasn't going down without a fight.

Cate had just a few minutes to accept the award when the teleprompter started counting down for her to leave the stage.

Furious with the decision she lashed out about fellow actor Matthew McConaughey and the airtime he had been given.

She said: "I've been away from the film industry for a long time making theatre... 29 seconds?! Matthew McConaughey spoke about Neptune and I think I can have five seconds!"
