Safety plans in place as Perth pub prepares for relaxing of lockdown

The manager at a Perth pub says plans are in place for it to reopen safely.

JD Wetherspoon is waiting on the go-ahead from the Scottish Government to open The Capital Asset on Tay Street.

The venue could return to its usual opening hours in June as its parent company draws up plans to try and ensure the safety of staff and customers post-lockdown.

The pub will still adhere to social distancing guidelines and see the employment of at least two full time staff, who will regularly clean surfaces and touch points.

COVID-19 health bill could be as much as £7.1 million

Wetherspoon also says it will provide gloves, masks and protective eyewear. Employees can elect whether to wear them or not, subject to government guidelines.

A number of hand sanitiser dispensers will also be set up around the pub.

Every employee will be required to complete and sign a daily health assessment questionnaire to confirm that they are fit to work, which will include having their temperature taken using a digital thermometer.

Customers will also be asked to use the Wetherspoon order and pay app, wherever possible, or pay at the bar using a credit/debit card or contactless payment, although cash will still be accepted.

Ranald Duncan, manager at The Capital Asset, said: “At present the government have not confirmed any reopening date for pubs. However, it is important that we are prepared for any announcement.

“We have spent a number of weeks consulting with staff who work in our pubs, as well as area managers in order to draw up our plans.

“The safety of staff and customers is paramount.”
