Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard was undoubtedly one of the most essential part of Dean Pees’ defense in 2018.
It’s because of this effectiveness that he secured the highest Pro Football Focus rating among all Titans players last year. With an overall rating of 88.4, Byard found himself just ahead of veteran defensive lineman, Jurrell Casey (87.2).
Byard’s rating placed him at fourth best among safeties in the league on a season in which he saw 99.7% of the team’s defensive snaps for the second consecutive year.
He ranked third on the Titans in tackles with a total of 90, including three for a loss.
Byard also racked up five quarterback hits, eight passes defensed, two sacks and four interceptions.
Given Byard’s steady impact on the defense and consistently upward momentum, there is no reason he and Jon Robinson should not be in talks on a contract extension in the future.
Obviously, Byard wasn’t the only player on the team to be recognized by PFF.
The site also placed Casey (87.2), running back Derrick Henry (87.0), linebacker Sharif Finch (84.4), linebacker Jayon Brown (81.7), tight end MyCole Pruitt (81.2), quarterback Marcus Mariota (76.8), left tackle Taylor Lewan (76.8), tight end Luke Stocker (76.6) and cornerback Adoree Jackson (72.9) in its team Top 10.
