Safestore has inked new deals to boost its presence in London, the firm said on Monday as it reported higher sales.

The self storage company said contracts have been exchanged for two new development sites and two store extensions in the capital.

The FTSE 250 company, led by Frederic Vecchioli, said the new sites are at Lea Bridge, and there is another one in north east London.

Meanwhile, close to its Wimbledon and Paddington Marble Arch branches, Safestore has secured more space to expand.

Safestore’s UK business recorded 13.9% revenue growth in the second quarter, and like-for-like storage revenue was 14% higher than a year earlier.

Vecchioli said: “I am pleased to report that the strong trading momentum reported for our first quarter has accelerated in the second quarter of the year driven by the strength of our UK performance combined with continued robust results from our French and Spanish businesses.”

Safestore said the full year earnings guidance is revised upwards.

Other firms in the sector have also reported improved trading. Last month AIM listed Lok’nStore said demand for space had jumped, in part thanks to people needing to free up room for home offices.
