Sadness as West Lothian fire crews race to tackle huge blaze at 'beautiful building'

Fire crews have been battling a blaze at a "beautiful building" overnight.

Residents have been left saddened after the fire broke at Bo'ness Bowling Club at around 11pm on Thursday night.

Four fire engines were called at the height of the blaze to bring it under control. It's understood they are no longer at the scene.

Local Tina Paterson shared dramatic photos of huge flames which could be seen from a distance over the town after the inferno broke out. "It looked really bad", she told Edinburgh Live.

The bowling club had shut in late 2017 after club members voted to shut it down.

Since then, the Grange Terrace premises has been targeted by vandals who had their attempt to torch it foiled by police, in February last year.

It's not yet clear what sparked last night's blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We can confirm we were called to a fire at Bo'ness Bowling Club on 15th April at 23:06pm.

"There were four fire engines in attendance at the height of the fire. They are no longer there."
