Sadness as popular Nottingham pub closes despite £410,000 revamp

A popular Nottingham pub which underwent a huge refurbishment just over a year ago has closed 'until further notice'. Concrete bollards now block the entrance to the Whitemoor pub, Bobbersmill, with metal grates also put up in the windows.

The license for the family-friendly venue is now up for sale through owners Star Pubs & Bars. The advertisement for the pub shows that it has the potential for food and drink as well as appealing to a wide variety of customers.

The Whitemoor team wrote on Facebook: "We are currently close until further notice. Please check back for more details soon. Thank you for your patience." There has been no further updates since the post, which was dated Monday, March 21.

The pub was closed briefly in 2020 for a major refurbishment that aimed to make it "the beating heart of the community". The owners, Star Pubs & Bars, invested £410,000 in the pub to transform the layout, making it more spacious and doubling the seating to accommodate 90 people. They also brought in high-definition TV screens so that the bar could show sports and installed a comfortable dining area.

The menu was also overhauled to offer pub classics for diners and a separate option for sporting events. There was also a popular curry club that offered Thai red curries, chicken Jalfrezi and vegan options such as Jackfruit Balti.

The renovations should make the pub an attractive prospect for a new licensee. The advert for the pub estimates that it could make a potential estimated annual turnover of £562,759.

Local residents and punters took to social media to share their frustration over the closure. One customer wrote: "Closed already? That was 410,000 well spent then."

Another commented: "One of the windows boarded up such a shame it looks nice since it's been done up. Still haven't been in looks like I won't be anytime soon."
