Sadness as Perth Party at the Park festival is cancelled due to coronavirus crisis

Perth's first Party at the Park has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers of the event, due to take place in at the South Inch over the weekend of June 27 and 28, had previously postponed the festival amid hopes it could be rescheduled.

But today (Tuesday) they admitted defeat.

A statement on the Party at the Park Facebook page read: "It is with a very heavy heart that we have to confirm that Party at The Park 2020 will be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Up until the past few days we were still hopeful that we would be able to find an alternative date later in the year, however with the continued uncertainty around restrictions on gatherings and events, we felt this was the only option left.

"Our priority has always been ensuring that Party at The Park is a safe, family-friendly event and sadly this can’t be guaranteed under the current restrictions. We were so encouraged by the response by all those who purchased tickets, all the bands and artists as well as the local authority and we were sure that we were going to deliver a fantastic event."

Tickets for this year's event will be automatically transferred to next year's festival, due to take place on June 26 and 27, 2021.

Refunds are available at the point of contact if music fans do not want to transfer to next year.

Big names such as indie favourites The Charlatans and Embrace, as well as Hot Dub Time Machine, Scouting For Girls, Gun, Tide Lines, Skerryvore, Toploader and the Lightning Seeds, were lined-up to grace the inaugural event.
