Sadness as Nottingham independent shop to close after 'hard times'

A Nottingham business has expressed its sadness as 'hard times' mean that it will close soon. Braderie, an independent vintage clothing shop on Pelham Street in Hockley, has announced it will be closing on Sunday, March 26.

It said this was due to the economic pressures it was facing, with similar businesses shutting down due to factors like falling consumer spending, inflation, and rising energy costs. The store encouraged customers to support other small businesses in the city after its closure.

A statement on the Braderie Facebook page, said: "It's been a wonderful journey. But sadly, Braderie will close for the final time on Sunday, March 26. Over the last decade, we've helped thousands of you find your favourite vintage garms and we've loved every minute of it.

"Unfortunately, times are hard for independent businesses, and like many others we've made the difficult decision to call it a day. We hope you remain passionate about all things secondhand and slow fashion. Keep supporting small businesses in Nottingham and beyond.

"They're what make a city unique. But before all that, we hope to see you in store for one last sale."

In a later post Braderie said a new business called Argang Store would be replacing the shop. A Braderie worker previously explained trading had been erratic in the area, with lower footfall over the Christmas period than usual.
