Sadly Players Bar is NOT installing a Tuxedo Princess-style revolving dance floor

Tyneside nightlife has been lacking one essential component ever since the 'The Boat' sadly sailed away from the Quayside: a revolving dancefloor.

Because nothing goes together quite as well as alcohol, high heels and a room which does the spinning for you , as anyone who danced on board the Tuxedo Royale or Tuxedo Princess will tell you.

Some of Tyneside's party-goers got a little bit excited upon hearing news that a Newcastle bar had been quietly planning to fit a rotating floor.

Players posted a Facebook update declaring it was set to unveil a revolving dance floor inside its bar in The Gate.

The post tugged on the heartstrings of the Geordie public by including a picture of the Tuxedo Princess, one of two ships-turned-nightclubs with revolving dance floors which were moored by the Tyne Bridge in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Players' post said: "THE SECRET IS OUT

"We've been trying to keep this under wraps for some time now but word has got out and our builders arrived this morning.

"We will be bringing back one of Newcastle's most iconic nightlife features.

"WE ARE INSTALLING A REVOLVING DANCE FLOOR,

"Work will be complete in time for this weekend.

"WE CAN'T WAIT."

The post has been widely shared across Facebook, with many Tuxedo veterans tagging their fellow revellers in excitement.

But those with a sharp eye worked out what's going on.

Sadly, Players is not bringing a revolving dance floor back to Newcastle.

Players posted the announcement at 8.25am, on Monday, April 1.

Players confirmed to ChronicleLive that the post was an April Fool's joke which has caught out some customers, who contacted the bar to find out more.

And more than a week on, the post is still being shared on Facebook.

"We've had a lot of enquiries for the grand opening, who we’ve had to explain it was a joke to," said operations director Shaun Jenkinson.
