Sadio Mane shares the thing he will "work hard" to improve in pre-season

Senegal have enjoyed a successful Africa Cup of Nations as they secured their place in the last eight with a narrow 1-0 victory against Uganda on Friday.

Liverpool 's Sadio Mane netted the decisive goal after quarter of an hour, although the Liverpool forward was unable to add to his tally from the penalty spot later in the game.

He was upended by Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango, taking responsibility for the spot-kick but failing to convert for the second consecutive time.

The 27-year-old missed from 12 yards in Senegal's last group game against Kenya, but redeemed himself when Senegal were awarded another spot kick later on which he dually converted.

Despite converting one of three penalties during the tournament, Mane has received the backing of his manager, Aliou Cisse , who has shown faith in one of his most pivotal players.

After the game, he told The Independent: 'There is confidence in him and that's why he took this penalty but, this is a discussion that I will have with him.'

However, Mane has taken it upon himself to step down from penalty duties in light of the past two matches, not wanting to jeopardise Senegal's chances of securing their first Africa Cup of Nations title.

He said: 'It's a momentary withdrawal. I have missed penalties in both games and must admit that it is not a good ratio. I do not want to penalise my team and, at least for the time being, I'm going to stand aside for the penalties and let other teammates get on with it.

'When I return to my club, I will continue to work hard to improve on this aspect.'

Senegal have not reached the semi-final stage at the Africa Cup of Nations since 2002. They face Benin in the quarter finals on Wednesday evening.
