Sadio Mane sends message to former Liverpool team-mate after international reunion

Sadio Mane sent a heartfelt message to Alisson Becker after reuniting with his former Liverpool team-mate during an international friendly yesterday evening.

Scoring twice in a 4-2 win for Senegal, Mane helped his country get the better of Brazil despite falling a goal behind after only 11 minutes. Left on the bench on this occasion having recently sustained a finger injury, Alisson could only watch on as Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson shipped four goals to suffer a surprise defeat.

Despite failing to partake in proceedings, an opportunity presented itself for Alisson and Mane to converse after the full-time whistle. Footage emerged of the pair catching up on the pitch and there was then time for a photo to be taken, with Reds goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel also getting involved in the action.

Taffarel joined the Reds in 2021 to support the work of John Achterberg and Jack Robinson and shares a close relationship with Alisson, whose personal recommendation helped the 1994 World Cup winner land his current role.

Reposting this image on his Instagram story, Mane added the following caption to the photo: “Was nice to meet this (sic) 2 legends."

It remains to be seen whether or not the 31-year-old will remain at Bayern Munich during the current transfer window, with reports from Germany suggesting the jet-heeled forward has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Thomas Tuchel.

Mane lifted the Bundesliga title during his maiden campaign with Bayern, though struggled for consistency after suffering a lengthy injury and was involved in a high-profile bust-up with team-mate Leroy Sane following a Champions League defeat by Manchester City in April.
