Sadio Mane's response to Mohamed Salah's after winning African Player of the Year award

Sadio Mane had a brilliant response for Mohamed Salah when he congratulated him on winning the African Player of the Year award.

Salah won the coveted award in both 2017 and 2018, but was pipped to the post by his Liverpool team-mate Mane in 2019.

Mane had helped guide Liverpool to a first Champions League trophy since 2005, and subsequently picked up the most votes from captains of the national teams from CAF's member associations, head coaches and technical directors.

Speaking on BT Sport ahead of Liverpool's clash with Wolves on Thursday, Mane revealed his delighted in winning the award for the first time.

He also recalled Salah's reaction to him beating him to a third consecutive accolade, and his brilliant reaction to the Egyptian's compliment.

"He said 'Congratulations my friend, you deserved it," recalled Mane.

"I said to him 'Yeah, I know."

Mane and Salah enjoy friendly competition at Liverpool, with the African duo making up two thirds of the Reds' sensational front three with Roberto Firmino.

Both players have netted 11 times in the Premier League this season, with Mane bagging one more assist than his team-mate.

Last season both Mane and Salah won the Premier League's Golden Boot award alongside Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 22 goals.
