Sadio Mane 'ready' for Real Madrid transfer, insists former teammate

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this week.

The in-form Reds frontman is said to be on the shortlist of new Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane as he plots a huge summer spending spree to revamp his squad.

And Mane's former Southampton team-mate Oriol Romeu has backed the Senegalese striker to be a major hit at the Bernabeu if the move comes to fruition.

The pair played 30 games together during the Saints' best ever Premier League season before Mane moved to Anfield for around £35million.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca , Romeu insisted Mane is "ready" for a switch to the La Liga giants.

Liverpool squad revealed for Tottenham clash as Jurgen Klopp receives huge boost

"He is ready,’" Romeu said. "Madrid are a little weak in attack and he’s the type of player that does a lot of damage in open spaces.

"He could help them reverse their current situation. He brings variation in attack, but he’s not a prolific goalscorer like Cristiano Ronaldo , who goes well above [other forwards].

"What I would highlight, above all, is his speed.

"He is a very electric and dizzying player. He has exceptional physical and technical qualities.

"At Liverpool he’s grown a lot. This season, he’s enjoying his best season in front of goal.

Adrien Rabiot 'agrees free transfer' amid Arsenal and Liverpool interest

"I think he’s acquired calmness and composure when finishing moves, either scoring or assisting. That is key."

Mane has bagged 11 goals since the turn of the year and is a crucial part of Liverpool's plans.

They reportedly have no interest in parting with the 26-year-old regardless of the price - meaning Romeu may not have chance to have his Real Madrid prediction proved right.

The Senegal international penned a new deal in November to keep him at Anfield until 2023 although it remains to be seen how Real Madrid's interest in him will play out.
