Sadio Mane issues response to Roberto Firmino over Liverpool goal celebration

Sadio Mane has responded to Roberto Firmino's pleas not to copy his goal celebration - telling his Liverpool team-mate there's no chance of him giving it up.

Mane showed off his new celebration for the first time after scoring in Liverpool's Uefa Super Cup win over Chelsea last month.

The problem was, Mane's sweeping hands gesture was remarkably similar to the 'presentation' celebration made famous by strike partner Firmino .

That prompted Firmino to take to Instagram , telling Mane: "Sadio, don’t copy me please".

Now Mane has hit back, saying fans will see the same celebration from him plenty of times this season.

“Each player in this squad, if you want to keep this celebration as your own it’s quite difficult because we score quite a lot!" Mane told Complex .

“Bobby did that celebration two or three years ago, and I think he has had quite a few celebrations since.

“My celebration now is what I’m going to carry on doing throughout the year.

“I know that Bobby will be copying me again soon, you’ll see!”

Meanwhile, Mane plans to power Liverpool on to more trophies this season after last term's Champions League triumph.

Liverpool begin the defence of their Champions League title with a trip to face Napoli a week today, while they head into Saturday's home clash against Newcastle two points ahead of rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

"It was a special moment for me, and for my teammates,” said Mane. “When I was younger, I grew up watching Champions League – especially the finals.

“So it was always a dream to play in the final. After scoring in it the season before but losing, going on to win it is an incredible feeling. I could not believe it!

“When we came back to Liverpool with the trophy, it was just incredible to discover how much it meant to the people here. The mood of the city was just crazy!

“Winning it and seeing how much it meant has given us all more motivation this season to perform, and win more trophies for this club.”
