Sadio Mane injury described by Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool absence

Jurgen Klopp has described Sadio Mane's injury as "nothing too serious" as Liverpool face West Ham without the forward in their side.

The Reds say the problem is a minor muscle complaint and Mane joins an injury list that also includes Diogo Jota, Naby Keita and Fabinho alongside long-term absentees Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.

Senegal international Mane played the full game on Thursday night as the Reds beat Tottenham 3-1 in London and picked up the knock against Jose Mourinho's side.

In his absence, Xherdan Shaqiri makes his second Premier League start of the campaign as Divock Origi fills in for Roberto Firmino, who begins the game on the bench at the London Stadium.

With a visit from Brighton on Wednesday before Manchester City arrive at Anfield on February 7, Klopp explained the reason behind Mane's absence from the team.

Klopp said: "It happened in the game against Tottenham, so it is nothing too serious, but serious enough to not be involved today.

"[We hope] that this is something like this doesn't happen again. We had less than 72 hours between games and no-one wants to hear that, but it's like this.

"We have to try to make sure the boys' recovery is as good as possible, but Bobby (Firmino) is fine."

With Jordan Henderson partnering Nat Phillips at centre-half, Klopp will use a 12th different tandem in 21 Premier League games in London this afternoon.

"It is clear, everyone knows that it is really tricky," he added.

"We play in the Premier League, the most difficult league in the world and the centre of your build up you have to change constantly.

"We have lived with that situation since the Everton game (in October), that is how it is, we just try to do as good as we can.

"With a lot of things we did really we were really happy with, some other things not too much, but I don't think too many teams have situations where all three center-halves are out for a long time, but that is how it is. We only think about it because you ask us."
