Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher makes huge claims about Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Jamie Carragher has labelled Sadio Mane as the best wide player for Liverpool since John Barnes and has also made a huge claim about the forward in relation to Mohamed Salah.

Mane has been outstanding for Liverpool this season and has bagged the most goals not including penalties in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has scored 18 goals in the Premier League, something which led to Carragher analysing his performances in detail during his latest appearance on Monday Night Football.

But Carragher didn't just stop at simply praising the Senegal international, he compared him to Liverpool legend Barnes, he said he was more important than Salah and also claimed Liverpool would have won the league in 2009 had Mane been on board then.

"I think sometimes he goes under the radar. You talk about Salah and the goalkeeper (Alisson) and the impact these players have had, he's (Mane) the best wide player Liverpool have had in 30 years," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"You have to go back to John Barnes since Liverpool have had a player like Mane. That's big because John Barnes is in my top five or six players to have ever played for Liverpool."

Manchester United legend Gary Neville then jumped in and asked: "If you had to lose one of Mane or Mo Salah for the run-in, who would it be?"

Carragher responded: "Salah. They have the same amount of goals. I'm a massive fan of Mane.

"Mane is the one that got Liverpool back. He was Jurgen Klopp's first big signing. He's been there from the very start.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp criticised again as he's told he can't take credit for Jordan Henderson revival

"We didn't have a wide player in 2009. If you look at the teams that win the title, the wide players stand out massively. If we'd had Mane in 2009, I think we would have won the league."

Liverpool's Naby Keita didn't impress all - but everybody loves Mohamed Salah

Carragher also praised the forward's ability to score important goals in games and not simply add the gloss to big wins.

"Going through Liverpool's last eleven games and in the first four, Mane got the first goal," Carragher added.

"There are only two other Liverpool players who have scored the first goal in those eleven matches. That's how vital Mane is.

"It's not just about banging in a couple at the end of a game, the goals he's scored are very important."
