Sadio Mane gives perfect answer when asked about fitness ahead of Liverpool vs Chelsea

Sadio Mane has declared himself ready to start Liverpool's UEFA Super Cup showdown with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Mane only returned to training last Monday after having only a short break following Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal.

The attacker missed the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City and was restricted to a late substitute appearance during the 4-1 win over Norwich City in Liverpool's Premier League opener last Friday.

But speaking at Vodafone Park on Tuesday ahead of the clash with Chelsea, Mane says he is raring to go.

“Yes, I think I am ready,” he said. “Tiredness I think is here (points to his head).

“For sure I have been playing for a long time, I think I never have holidays now in seven years for more than 20 days.

“I'm used to it! For sure, I'm ready. I'm here. Let's do it!”

In Mane's absence, Divock Origi starred on the left flank against Norwich by forcing an own goal from Grant Hanley and then heading the Liverpool's fourth.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to make a number of changes to his starting line-up with Joel Matip, James Milner and Naby Keita among those also pressing for a start.

Chelsea go into the game on the back of a 4-0 humbling at Manchester United on Sunday, but Mane believes that wasn't representative of the Londoners' performance.

“I watched the game and even the though they lost 4-0, they played very well,” said the forward.

“They created some chances of course but at the end of the day United played very well and deserved to win.

“Hopefully we are going to do the same. We know them (Chelsea) very well and they know us as well. They are a great team.”

Mane was also quizzed on the decision to hand Lionel Messi the Champions League goal of the season award for his free-kick against Liverpool, overlooking the Senegal international's claims for his clever finish against Bayern Munich.

“I recognise he deserved to win it and everybody knows Messi so I don't have to describe how good he is,” he said.

“The awards are nice to win but it doesn't matter to us. If we win the trophies then we're happy to go home again.”
