Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren absence explained after Liverpool captain's award picture confusion

Jordan Henderson was pictured with the entire Liverpool team and backroom staff at Melwood on Friday clutching his FWA Footballer of the Year award.

The captain stood front and centre of the image while the entire Reds set up behind him were beaming with pride at the achievement which saw Henderson beat the likes of Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne to claim the accolade.

Swathes of the Anfield faithful rejoiced at seeing the image of Henderson and his team, however, some were left wondering why star attacker Sadio Mane and defender Dejan Lovren were missing from the photograph.

The ECHO understands that Mane was missing due to a slight medical issue though, thankfully for the Reds, it is not serious enough to make him a doubt for the game against Newcastle on Sunday.

Lovren, meanwhile, is set to leave Liverpool after a fee of around £11million was agreed with Zenit St Petersburg over a transfer.

It is understood that the centre-back had business to sort out in regards to the deal when the picture was being taken.
