Sadio Mane admits 'strange' situation with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker

Sadio Mane has no fears Alisson Becker will overcome his recent indifferent form and believes the Liverpool goalkeeper remains the best in the world.

Alisson has suffered a rocky time that has contributed to the Reds' dire run of form that has effectively ended their Premier League title defence and leaves them facing a tough battle to secure a top-four finish.

The Brazilian made two dreadful mistakes in the 4-1 home defeat to Manchester City earlier this month and was then responsible for a howler in the 3-1 loss at Leicester City.

But Mane has pointed to Alisson's previous heroics at Liverpool and is confident the shot-stopper will soon be back to his best.

“To be honest, sometimes I am surprised when people talk about Alisson's mistakes," said the Reds forward. "But at the same time, I know it's part of the sport.

"When the best goalkeeper in the world makes one or two mistakes, I think, for sure, that is strange. But it's not just him, it's the whole team.

"But how many times has Alisson saved us? Without him, we would probably never be Champions League champions or have any trophy."

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Mane added: “For me, he is the best goalkeeper in the world, with a great mentality.

"In the locker room, he is always up, because he has no doubts about it, he knows his quality.

"And we know that he will go through that phase. We don't need to keep talking to him to get excited, because he is fine."
