Sadio Mane admits he would swap Champions League final win for AFCON triumph

Sadio Mane has admitted he would swap Liverpool's Champions League win for victory with Senegal over Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

The Reds beat Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid to win a sixth European crown and cap a fine season at Anfield.

Mane was a pivotal figure over the course of the campaign, finding the net on 26 occasions in all competitions.

But he says he would trade it all for a first major honour at international level tonight.

"For sure, I would be ready even today [to swap]," he told BBC Sport. "Maybe I don't need to swap when we win it hopefully.

"We know it won't be easy but it's normal, it's part of football. Algeria is a great team and now I'm just looking forward to playing in the final and to win it."

The title would be Senegal's first at AFCON at the 15th attempt having only previously made the final in 2002 where they were beaten by Cameroon.

Mane is their key man and victory this evening would strengthen his case to be named as the winner of this year's Ballon d'Or.

He is among the favourites for the biggest individual honour in football along with Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.
