Sadie Sink’s MCU role just got more complicated (in the best way)

It seems impossible to escape speculation about Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Every single time that I open social media nowadays, I feel like I see at least one rumor or “scoop” or piece of AI-generated fanart about one of those two upcoming blockbuster movies.

That level of constant conversation around Doomsday and Secret Wars is understandable, given both movies’ massive significance for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond. But it makes the occasional drop of credible information all the more surprising… and today’s is no exception.

On Tuesday, buried in a report about an upcoming West End production of Romeo & Juliet, Deadline claimed that Sadie Sink will be joining the cast of Secret Wars. Sink was already cast in a mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day earlier this year, with the report indicating that she will continue filming that movie until the middle of December, before appearing in Secret Wars when it films in London “later in 2026.”

While things can always change, and even some major trade publications have a history of getting information that is ultimately incorrect, this detail about Sink is definitely one of the more tangible pieces of Secret Wars news that we’ve gotten yet. I could spend the rest of this article listing the things that we don’t know about that movie, especially as the specifics of the ensemble cast are being kept hush-hush while we focus on the 40+ names on chairs that we already got for Doomsday.

So… who is she playing?

The idea of Sink joining Secret Wars does raise a web (pun intended) of questions. The first is: will Tom Holland’s Peter Parker / Spider-Man be joining her in the movie? Even before this report, Holland’s involvement in that latter film felt like a bit of a foregone conclusion, especially because he wasn’t on the laundry list of names already confirmed for Doomsday. (I can assume that the overlap of Brand New Day‘s filming schedule had something to do with that.) It also just feels like a no-brainer for Holland to be in Secret Wars, at very least to recreate the iconic black suit moment from the original 1984 comic.

Sink potentially hopping over to Secret Wars doesn’t necessarily guarantee that her MCU role is some major hero or villain. After all, Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds was technically in Avengers: Infinity War… just in a few frames of footage before Peter’s Spidey-sense activates and he heads into battle. If Sink is playing some civilian character in Peter’s life, like Carlie Cooper or even Gwen Stacy, then she could feasibly have a similar brief cameo in Secret Wars.

But there’s also the chance that Sink’s character is some sort of costumed character from the comics, something that fans have speculated about ad nauseam ever since she was first cast earlier this year. Black Cat, Firestar, Jackpot, Julie Carpenter, and the Rachel Cole incarnation of The Punisher have all been thrown out as options… and to an extent, you could make an argument for practically any of those women being thrown into the fray of Secret Wars.

There’s also the lingering possibility of her being Mayday Parker, the teenaged-daughter-turned-superhero of another universe’s Peter… which would immediately add another major layer to Secret Wars. If Sink were revealed to be the Mayday to Tobey Maguire’s Peter, another character who feels all but destined to appear in Secret Wars, it’s safe to say that the Internet would break.
