Saddleworth pub temporarily closes after member of staff tests positive for coronavirus

A Saddleworth pub has temporarily closed after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

The Royal George, on Manchester Road, near Greenfield, says it will reopen again once it is safe to do so.

The pub is also being given an anti-viral deep clean, although management do not believe it was the source of the infection.

A statement on the pub's Facebook page reads: "A member of our front of house team tested positive for Covid and they are now self-isolating.

"As a precaution we have temporarily closed and will reopen when we have taken further advice that it is safe to do so.

"We are following all the government guidelines regarding test and trace, and even though we are confident that the pub was not the source of the infection it is now being given specialist anti-viral cleaning just to be completely sure.

"We are sorry to those who have had their bookings cancelled and look forward to welcoming guests back soon".

The pub is one of a number of venues in the region that have acted swiftly to close after staff or customers tested positive for the virus.

On Monday, Rumba bar and restaurant in Congleton, Cheshire closed for a deep clean and for all staff on shift to be tested for Covid-19, after a customer tested positive for the virus.

It is believed the woman, who visited the venue on Saturday, had taken a test for the virus earlier that day.
