'Sad' - Nottingham Forest legend Steve Chettle's verdict on Tyler Walker exit

Nottingham Forest legend Steve Chettle says it was "sad" to see Tyler Walker quit for Coventry City but feels he has the potential "to do really well" for the Sky Blues.

Walker wrapped up a move to Mark Robins' side last week for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-year deal with the Championship newcomers.

His exit severed what had been a 14-year association at the Reds where he struggled to break into the first team under boss Sabri Lamouchi with Lewis Grabban ahead of him in the pecking order.

Forest fans were disappointed but understood the reasons behind the departure of the 23-year-old whose father Des was an icon at the City Ground.

And Chettle, who played more than 400 games for the club, now hopes he can grasp his chance at Coventry after spending last season on loan at Lincoln City.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, he said: "It's always sad when someone who has been there as a kid, working their way through the academy into the first team goes.

"He's gone out on loan and scored goals and when he's come back he's scored goals in cameo appearances more than anything.

"Hopefully he can get his teeth stuck into Coventry City and have a long and established career scoring goals for them.

"Success is getting people into your first team year in, year out. Lewis was scoring all the goals last season and Tyler needs to play football consistently.

"It happens to everyone, whether your young or at the end of your career.

"Sometimes you need to move when it's best for you.

"He needs to be playing regularly and scoring goals. You might take what people see as a backward step going to a club which is a lesser status potentially than Forest, but he's got potential to do really well and move on again, or he can move on with the club where he's at, which is a possibility."
