SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia granted bail in drugs case

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 10 granted bail to former Minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a case related to allowing illicit drugs smuggling and harbouring offenders involved in the drugs trade.

Mr. Majithia’s counsel Arshdeep Singh Kler said, his client had been granted bail by the High Court in the matter. The Division Bench of justices M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Sureshwar Thakur had reserved the judgment, which was pronounced today, he added.

Mr. Majitia had surrendered before the police earlier this year after the Assembly election were over in the State. He had been lodged in a Patiala jail since then.

The Punjab police had registered FIR under Sections 25 (allowing premises etc. to be used for commission of an offence under the Act), 27A (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 against Mr. Majithia at Bureau of Investigation (BoI) in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali).
