Sad day for Dublin as popular restaurant closes forever after 15 years with heartbreaking statement

While yesterday was a day mostly filled with joy in the capital as pubs, restaurants and cafes all reopened after an almost four month hiatus, one Dublin cafe did not make it through the crushing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Village Bistro in Terenure famed for their super Full Irish Breakfast which would keep you ticking over for days announced that they would not be reopening on June 29, or any day after that.

They broke the news to their fans and followers on their Facebook page saying they had taken the "very difficult" decision to close their Bistro indefinitely.

They said: "To say we are devastated is an understatement.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every customer that has come through the door over the last 15 years. We will be forever grateful for all the support, all the memories we made and the special occasions we got to be a part of. Thank you for all the kind words over the past week."

They continued: "Also, we would like to thank all of our amazing staff past and present, we have been incredibly lucky to have had the most honest, hard working and loyal team over the years - we have made friends for life.

"Thank you to all of our fellow businesses in Terenure village for all the messages of support and continued custom over the years, we wish them all the best."

The heartbreaking statement ends: "I personally would like to thank my friends and family with a special shout out to my husband without the support of these people I wouldn’t have made it 15 years and I will be forever grateful to them for always going above and beyond to help.

"So thank you from the bottom of our hearts and thank you for the memories. Farewell from all at the village bistro."
