Sad day for Dublin as iconic food gem closes after 39 years with locals heartbroken

Thousands of Full Irish Dublin lovers will be distraught after news that an iconic Dublin city gem is to close its doors after 39 years of business.

Popular Camden Street shop Gerry's Cafe is no longer after the owner revealed the heartbreaking news on their Facebook page on Sunday.

Famed for its delicious and quick fry ups, it has fed and watered locals to tourists, politicians to gardai, celebrities to hungover students, office staff to builders and everybody in the middle.

It survived two recessions, two booms, nine Taoisigh, four presidents and made one million breakfasts breaking five million eggs - but there's only one Gerry's.

Speaking on their page, Gerry's Cafe said that it was finally time to say goodbye after nearly four decades.

They said: "After thirty-nine years of feeding everybody from locals to tourists, politicians to guards, celebrities to hungover students, office staff to builders and everybody in the middle, it is sadly time for Gerry's Café to close our shutters and say goodbye.

"It has been a privilege to have been supported by the community over the years, and we can't thank you enough for keeping our doors open through it all. Gerry's prided itself on the quality of our food, service, and value. We also were not shy about our portions and hoped that we kept you all full and fed on every visit.

"A special thank you to some of our loyal customers that have been visiting since we first opened and sometimes even managed to sneak into our family dinner on Christmas Day…with no charge, but still had to sit where they were told.

"After all these years, we feel that it is now a good time to say goodbye. Gerry will still have a presence around the area and will be supporting the local businesses on Camden Street most weekends until closing unless there's a lock-in."

They added: "Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. Your support and friendship over the years meant a lot to our family."
