Sad day for Dublin as famous pub restaurant Oscar Taylors and Island View Hotel in Malahide closes its doors for good today

It's truly the end of an era today as Dubliners are being forced to say an emotional goodbye to a Northside stronghold.

Oscar Taylors in Malahide released a status on Facebook earlier in the month confirming the closure of its famous pub and restaurant on July 31.

As well as this, it also spells the end for their Island View Hotel which will also close its doors for good today.

In a statement on Facebook, they said: "On behalf of all the staff and management we would like to thank all of our customers for the loyal support you have given us throughout the years.

"From the 31 of July 2019, Oscar Taylors and Island view hotel will close its doors for the last time.

"We hope to see you all before it happens. Wishing you all the very best for the future. From all the team, it's been a pleasure."

Owner of Oscar Taylors and Island View Hotel, Hugh Curran added: " I would like to thank all my customers that supported me and my business over the period of the last 20 years plus. Also any vouchers will be honoured at the Coachmans Inn Airport Road. Thanks again."

Tributes poured in for the famous establishment as locals shared their favourite memories from the business.

Mandy Cahill wrote underneath the post: "11 years ago I had a date at this restaurant and we ended up married. We have also celebrated many occasions here. Will be a sad loss to the coast. Best of luck to all."

Gary McClean added: "This is such a shame and will be a huge loss to customers from Malahide and beyond. To the fantastic staff, may I wish you all the very best in your future endeavours and I thank you for your attentive and professional service over the years."

Pam Smith commented: "My late Mam and Dad wouldn’t go anywhere else for family occasions. They’d be so sad to see it go. Your steaks, pepper sauce, onion rings, chips and a side of veg made them very happy."

Inger Newman said: "We have always celebrated our big occasions at Oscars. Family birthdays, anniversaries, get-togethers etc. Our family and friends have always travelled from far and wide to join us at your fabulous Restaurant as you and your magnificent staff have always treated us and everyone there like royalty.

"We’re so upset to see you close. The heart of Malahide is dying, so sad."
