Sacrilege: Challan against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim presented in Punjab and Haryana high court

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Monday submitted the copy of the challan, presented against Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in connection with the sacrilege cases before the Punjab and Haryana high court. The report was filed by the state in response to the plea filed by the dera chief, demanding handing over Punjab’s 2015 sacrilege cases to CBI for investigation.

However, no arguments took place during the hearing as the Punjab advocate general (AG) was in Delhi. The HC adjourned the matter for July 19.

In his plea, the dera chief had sought directions to set aside the Punjab government’s notification dated September 6, 2018 through which the state government had withdrawn the consent given for CBI investigation in sacrilege cases. He had also been praying for directions to the CBI to start the investigation from where it had left before the state’s notification.

The investigation of these cases is currently conducted by the special investigation team (SIT) of Punjab Police. The dera chief is currently serving jail terms in connection with the rape and murder cases.
