Sachins head chef launches cooking at home videos to bring restaurant to customers

Head chef Bob Arora is bringing a taste of Sachins to customers' homes by showing them how to cook Punjabi dishes.

Sachins, in Forth Banks, Newcastle, has been open for 35 years, but it has temporarily closed doors due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

The restaurant briefly offered 'drive-thru' and delivery services but a decision was taken to fully shut to protect staff.

Step in Bob, who has been filming easy to cook at home recipes for his customers to follow.

In a three-part series, Bob has cooked chaana daal, soup and paratha. The dishes all make the most of a low-cost cost store cupboard ingredient, yellow lentils. The recipes are vegetarian.

Bob told ChronicleLive: "Having to close the restaurant, we really miss seeing our customers. I thought this was a good way to engage with them and spread the Sachins love. We’ve had some amazingly loyal customers over the years.

"I’ve simplified family recipes for people to make while they are in lockdown at home.

"I’ve also tried to show people how to incorporate any left overs in dishes."

The videos are available to watch, in full, on Sachins' Facebook page. Sachins encourages those who have a go to share pictures of their dishes with the restaurant.
