Sachin Tendulkar accepts Honorary Cricket Membership of Melbourne Cricket Club

NEW DELHI: Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar accepted the invitation to become an honorary member of the esteemed Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) on Friday, the club announced.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the game's top grounds, is managed and developed by the MCC, one of Australia's oldest sports clubs, which was founded in 1838.

"An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game," the MCC posted on 'X'.

With 449 runs from five Test matches at an average of 44.90 and a strike-rate of 58.69, including three fifty-runs, the renowned Tendulkar presently holds the record for most runs at MCG.

One of Australia's greatest honors, the Order of Australia, was given to Tendulkar earlier in 2012.

India and Australia are evenly matched at 1-1 in their series as the crucial fourth and penultimate Test match, is currently being held at the MCG.
