Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher donate planeload of PPE for NHS staff

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher teamed up with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff to send 20 tonnes of personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers in the UK.

Baron Cohen, 48, and Fisher, 44, joined forces with media company DMGT and Benioff’s 1BPPE initiative to send a planeload of supplies into London Heathrow.

The shipment of 50,000 coveralls and 100,000 masks flown from China will then be distributed to NHS workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

Benioff wrote on Twitter: “A partnership between Salesforce, @dmgtplc & @SachaBaronCohen just landed a plane in London Heathrow with @British_Airways full of PPE to protect @NHSuk doctors & nurses on the front line.

“Thank you Lord Rothermere for your leadership.”

Baron Cohen then responded: “Isla and I are so happy to have such persistent and generous partners in getting this done.

“Businesses please follow and get PPE in through #ProjectHope in the US and #MailForce in the UK.”

Borat star Baron Cohen and Nocturnal Animals actress Fisher married in 2010 and are parents to daughters Olive, 12, and Elula, eight, and son Montgomery, four.

The couple are not the only famous names to donate to the coronavirus relief effort.

Beyonce and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently teamed up to donate $6 million (approximately £4.9 million) to frontline workers and those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic through the singer’s BeyGood foundation and Dorsey’s #StartSmall charity.

A $1 million (approximately £800,000) donation from George and Amal Clooney will be split between six coronavirus-related causes, including NHS charities and the relief effort in Lombardy, Italy.

Angelina Jolie has pledged the same sum to combat child hunger during the crisis, donating to No Kid Hungry, which provides meals for children from lower income families in the United States.
